Field Notes

Exports that make subscription dashboard builds faster

A dashboard engagement moves at the speed of the export. Ideal files are boring: one row per subscription event or monthly snapshot, stable IDs, and dates in ISO form.

Fields we ask for most often:

  • Subscriber or account ID
  • Plan or membership tier
  • Status (trial, active, paused, cancelled)
  • Start date, end date or cancel date
  • Amount and currency for the period
  • Acquisition channel only if it is maintained

Avoid sending five overlapping CSVs with slightly different “active” filters. Pick one cut and document it. If personally identifiable columns are unnecessary for the metrics, strip them before sharing.

When warehouse access is delayed, a three-month manual export still lets definition workshops proceed. Charts can be rebuilt once the pipeline lands — definitions should not wait for perfect plumbing.
